Meet Little Dog....
He was found in Ogallala, NE running around a grocery store parking lot. Picked up by animal control, he was never claimed. He became adoptable, but nobody adopted him and he was scheduled to be put to sleep. A good and kind soul, who had seen him picked up by animal control, kept track of him and "sprang him from the joint" on his last day. She contacted a Poodle breeder in Ogallala who in turn contacted me. I agreed to take and place him since a dog like this is more desirable on the Front Range than in rural Nebraska. This dog is a saint. It would have been a crime to put such a good guy to sleep. Although dirty when he was found, he was clearly someone's pet and I'm surprised that no one came looking for him.

All that is good:
Housebroken Leash trained Very quiet (I've only heard him bark 2xs in a week) Knows basic commands (taught him to roll over this week) Knows the meaning of the word NO Does not chew Does not resource guard Great with other dogs.... friendly and confident Great with kids Loves women Tolerant if wary of men Likes to retrieve tennis ball No runny eyes Eats like a champ (will work for fishy crackers!) Clean ears... no sign of allergies

This guy is a gentle soul. He wants nothing more than to sit at your feet when you are working, sit in your lap if you are watching TV and to sleep in your bed. He is pretty settled. He has spurts of energy, but in general he is relaxed and laid back. He loves to be carried around and treated like a baby.
I'm guessing that Little Dog is around 5 years old. He is a good sturdy little dog: 14.5" at the shoulder and 14.5 lbs. He would be a perfect fit for a retired woman or a woman who could take him to work (he tucks right in under the desk). He is so attached to people that he would not be a good candidate for a working or busy on-the-go family that had to leave him at home all day. He shows a growing tendency to want to protect his girls (totally appropriate.... not over the top at all) and he would be a good little watch dog. He has enough play left him him to be a fun little companion, but he is settled enough that he does not require huge amounts of management. Give him a walk every couple of days and play some ball in the house and this guy will be in heaven!
His one bad habit is bolting out the door of the house or the car windows. If you let him slip out, he will rocket down the sidewalk following his nose. I can see why he would get lost. The funny thing is that he doesn't try to run away and if you follow him for a block or two, he will turn and come back to you. It is almost like he loses focus for a few minutes. We have made great strides in training him not to bolt out the door but he will need to be gently reminded every now and then.

Little Dog is available to the right home. I will not ship him, but I will consider someone who is willing to fly/drive to Colorado to pick him up. He would be fine as a second dog, but I won't consider placing him in a home with multiple dogs because I want him to have more individual attention.
There is no rehoming fee but his new family must agree to have his teeth professionally cleaned in the next 6 months. Note this is general maintenance that all dogs should have and Little Dog is due. Anyone wanting to adopt him will also need to understand that a Poodle requires regular grooming and that this is a reoccurring expense.
